California wildfire preparation starts early as drought continues

The ongoing drought conditions in California in the US has led authorities to start their wildfire preparation season early. Fire scientists have been measuring the amount of moisture in fuels and the fire lab in San Jose state recently tweeted the situation looked grim. CAL FIRE is hiring 1,400 more hand crews this season and helicopters will be staffed sooner than normal. CAL FIRE reports there have already been more than 300 more fires than last year and about 500 more than the five-year average.
