Cops swarm streets in Brisbane siege

Early reports suggest an armed man is holding a young child hostage, with specialised police officers working to negotiate the situation.

Police have shut down numerous streets in Brisbane’s south side as they try to negotiate a suspected hostage situation.

On Thursday morning Queensland Police made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act due to a “police incident” in Sunnybank.

Early reports suggest an armed man has taken a child hostage at a home near Banoon train station, but police would are yet to confirm the specifics of the situation.

As a result, the public has been asked to avoid the zone, bounded by Dyson Ave, Geddes Place, Beenleigh Rd and Ganda Place.

Officers from the Special Emergency Response Team and the Public Safety Response Team are both on scene.

More to come.
