Lebanon on the ‘brink of collapse’ following political crisis

Activists have claimed Lebanon’s political crisis left the country on the brink of collapse as skyrocketing inflation, unemployment and food prices have led to a dramatic increase in poverty and anger towards those in power. Violent protests have broken out against the political elite, and the local currency has lost more than 80 per cent of its value against the dollar in the last two years. Politicians have been unable to form a government since the last one resigned nearly eight months ago after the Beirut port blast.
