Liz Cheney’s removal is a ‘sad day for the Republican Party’

The ousting of Liz Cheney from her position in the House of Representatives is “a sad day” for the Republican Party and democracy, according to Perth USAsia Centre CEO Gordon Flake. “It is a sad day I think for the Republican Party and for democracy at large, the fact that she was removed on a voice vote done without any transparency … that there weren’t recorded votes on this thing,” he told Sky News. Mr Flake said Ms Cheney was removed from her position for “saying the exact same words” of the Republican leaders after the insurrection on January six and Republicans have to keep President Trump on board because of his following. “The fact that she wasn’t willing to kowtow to President Trump and has paid the price for it is certainly a serious development.”
