Meghan followed up Piers Morgan’s breakfast show barrage with formal complaint

It has been revealed Meghan Markle made a formal complaint to UK broadcaster ITV over comments made by former breakfast show host Piers Morgan. The breakfast show host’s commentary followed a tell-all interview hosted by talk show host Oprah Winfrey where the Duchess of Sussex revealed she suffered suicidal thoughts during her time living and working as a senior royal. Mr Morgan unleashed a barrage of criticism after the interview, questioning the legitimacy of Meghan’s claims which prompted a complaint from Meghan who raised concerns over how his comments would affect others suffering mental health issues. He subsequently resigned from the program after he refused to issue an apology to the Duchess and has been farewelled by his former co-host on Good Morning Britain. Mr Morgan said, “I believe in the right to be allowed to have an opinion. If people want to believe Meghan Markle that is entirely their right”. “I don’t believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she’s done to the British monarchy and to the queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible. “If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview so be it.” Oprah Winfrey’s bombshell interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex drew more than 49 million viewers worldwide.
