No ‘political will’ to ban assault rifles in US

Perth USAsia Centre CEO Gordon Flake says with the senate deadlocked along with other factors, it’s difficult to see major gun reforms change in America. This comes after 10 people, including a police officer, were killed in a mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado. “It’s heart wrenching to stay that in the context of what happened in Colorado,” Mr Flake told Sky News. “This isn’t just about gun violence. It’s about a specific type of weapon, the AR-15, which was designed for no sporting purpose. “The fact that Ronald Reagan had a ban on it, and that ban was allowed to expire during the George W. Bush administration. “There doesn’t appear to be the political will to once again ban assault weapons in the United States is a real indictment on politics in the US today.”
