A Perth restaurant owner has faced court, charged with indecently and sexually assaulting female employees who are foreign nationals.

Police allege Maurizio Di Ciano, the chef and owner of No Menu Finest Italian in Highgate, assaulted six women, aged in their 20s and 30s, last year

“The women, who are foreign nationals, had recently been employed by the man when the (alleged) offences occurred,” police said in a statement on Thursday.

Sex assault squad detectives charged the 48-year-old with nine counts of indecent assault, four counts of common assault and three counts of sexual penetration without consent.

Mr Di Ciano faced Perth Magistrates Court later on Thursday and had his bail renewed until his next court appearance on August 3. He is yet to enter a plea.

Police said their investigation was ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

According to his website, Mr Di Ciano started his “passion” for Italian fine foods working in the kitchens of Abruzzo as a child.

He worked in Europe before moving to Perth. No Menu Finest Italian opened in 2017.
