Prime Minster Scott Morrison declared the Indo-Pacific will “shape the destiny of our world in the 21st century” during the historic multilateral meeting of the Quad bloc. The historic meeting between the leaders of the United States, Australia, Japan and India showed the countries are taking the threat of China more seriously, according to Sky News Washington Correspondent Annelise Nielsen. Ms Nielsen said the leaders avoided naming China individually, but the US national security advisor confirmed China was discussed behind closed doors, while being “very insistent this wasn’t the main game of the forum”. Challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change were the focus of discussions, as well as concerns around free trade and security in the region. The four leaders made a significant commitment to distribute one billion COVID-19 vaccines throughout the Indo-Pacific region by the end of 2022.
